How to Enjoy Pirates This Summer

Easterling. The blockbuster success of "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" means that the Pirates attraction at the Magic Kingdom will be even hotter this summer! So what does that mean if you are vacationing at Walt Disney World this summer?

First, expect long lines. Your best option for avoiding long lines is to arrive just as the park opens and head immediately to the attraction. Best route: Go down Main Street, turn left at Casey's Corner and weave your way past everyone waiting for the Crystal Palace. Continue through the entrance into Adventureland and keep walking to your left all the way to the Pirate entrance. Do not get distracted by anything, because even a few minutes' delay can add significant time to your waiting time.

If both sides of the queue are open, take the left side. My experience is that the left side moves slightly faster. Then enjoy the ride! When you exit, skip the shop and check the line. If it's still not too long, get in line again and double your fun.

When you've had enough fun riding the sea with the pirates, then it's time to explore more:

  • Visit the shop, where you can find Mickey Mouse ears with a pirate scraft and earrings, unique t-shirts, play swords, and other treasures.
  • Check the time schedule for Captain Jack Sparrow’s Pirate Tutorial, an interactive experience in Adventureland where you can learn how to be a pirate.
  • Meet characters from Peter Pan, which also features pirates, in the plaza area near the shop.

Not able to get there early? It will be much harder to ride without waiting more than 30 minute (or longer!). Try visiting during the afternoon parade or the evening fireworks show. Many guests leave the rides to wait for the shows that lines are generally shorter during those times.

Important Note: Strollers and wheelchairs are not allowed into the queue. You must park them is a special area left of the entrance. The parking area is much like the stroller parking in Fantasyland. That means, your stroller may be moved while you are gone. Do not leave any valuables!

If you are traveling in August or early September, plan to attend the Pirate and Princess Party at the Magic Kingdom. See dates and more details about the Pirate and Princess Party.
