Typhoon Lagoon Reopens March 22

It's been a LONG winter ... especially if you're a fan of Typhoon Lagoon!

My favorite Disney waterpark -- my favorite waterpark period -- was closed for longer than usual this winter. Typically, the Disney waterparks are closed for a month each for regular maintenance and perhaps a few upgrades and enhancements. Typhoon Lagoon was apparently getting some extra spit and polish, because it has been closed since last October!

So at long last, the park reopens this Sunday, March 22. Park hours are usually 10 AM to 5 PM; check the times guide when you arrive at the resort.

The big news as Typhoon Lagoon reopens is the return of surfing lessons. Before opening to regular guests, Disney offers a special early-morning sessions designed for surfing beginners. You'll start on land with instruction by professional surfers, then venture out into the wave pool for some board time. Each session lasts about two hours, and all of the equipment is provided. Call 407-WDW-SURF to make reservations.

Maybe someday I'll try the surfing lessons... I'm not really a very strong swimmer, so I'm happy to spend my day floating on Castaway Creek. We hop out every now and then for a run down Crush 'N' Gusher, the coaster-like water slide ... or Gang Plank Falls, the family waterslide ... or Keelhaul Falls or Mayday Falls, the two inner-tube twisty-turvy slides.

If I'm feeling really brave and we beat the crowds in the morning, we also like snorkeling with the sharks and other critters on Sharf Reef. I have to work up my nerve to do that one!

So pack your swimsuit and plenty of sun screen because Typhoon Lagoon is back in action at Walt Disney World. And not a moment too soon for me!
